I was a Norelco man for quite some time. My wife started me off on my first one maybe eight years ago. I used the first one for a while, it even still works, but subsequent ones just didn’t really seem to be as good as that first one. I decided to just get a cheap one to get by for maybe six months so I bought a Remington R845. I was very impressed by the brand. I didn’t use any of the optional lubrication sprays or anything on it and really no oil for the side burn trimmer because I never use that feature. That razor lasted me about 9 months before it recently started irritating my skin a little, so I went looking for a replacement and got this razor.

What’s the point of that story? Well, I haven’t had this one that long so it’s my best projection at how long this razor will last me. I’m actually a little more optimistic that because it’s washable the blades will stay cleaner and I can get a full year out of it. I should point out that this is obviously not a top of the line razor you’d get for a hundred dollars, but it’s no bottom rung either.

The only things that bother me a little are that it seems less powerful than the last one I had and it has some problems trimming the hair right under my nose. Remington seems to be really good about holding a battery charge so I’m not worried about that. My last one went weeks sometimes between charges. If you have sensitive skin, its got a handy little switch to make the blades not cut so close, which is a nice touch.

Considering I only paid about for the thing and how much money I’ll save not buying razor blades every few weeks or using shaving cream, not to mention the time savings, I’m a happy camper.

I’ve only had this razor for a couple of weeks but so far it has proven to be excellent. Shaves close and fast, and the battery holds a charge for a long time. The only downside is that if the battery runs down you cannot plug in the recharger and shave. You must wait until the battery recharges.
I’ve had many rotary shavers over the years and I would recommend this one as highly satisfactory.

remingtons don’t last long – california mom –
this was the 2nd remington shaver (not refurbished, but brand new) we got for my husband and it’s the 2nd one to stop holding a charge before 1.5 years (warranty is 2 years – and what a pain it is to arrange to get it serviced). we will NOT be buying a remington ever again.

I have an average beard and have used remington rotary shavers for 35 years. Two years ago, I bought this r450 not noticing it was not a lift & cut. As a result, it doesn’t shave as close as my previous razor. Other than that, it is a good, reliable, economical shaver. It lasted 3 weeks on a charge initially and after 2 years still lasts 2 weeks. II’m just now buying new blades. FYI, I tried a foil shaver last year and was so disappointed that I’m back to the rotary. (The foil shaver cuts nice, but drops cut whiskers everywhere and, if I skip a day, it has a very hard time–misses several whiskers regardless of how many times I go over it. Not so with all the rotaries I’ve had!)

all I can say is OUCH!!!! – D. J. Dahl –
I got this shaver for Christmas and plugged it in, expected to shave my face but it has to be Unplugged to work, so I unplugged it after a full day of charging. The battery is too weak, the rpms are too slow and it tugs on your whiskers causing irritation and pain (even the beard trimmer does this)

I cannot do much about this as it was a present, and I no longer have the package it came in. So I’ll just look around for better, I imagine it won’t be too hard to find better than this.

no offense Remington or China for that matter, but if you’d quit building garbage you’d find it easier to attract and maintain customers.

Amazon wouldn’t print my first review. Have no idea why. This was not a lemon folks. I foolishly exchanged this item 3 times to prove it. The exchanges were done without problem.
The razor is powered by a single AA battery. The battery’s life decays quickly in the first thirty days making it mandatory to recharge almost daily. It will not work corded. You best bring your charger unit with you even on short trips.
The exterior design is good. The weight and feel are good as well. The shave is excellent for the first few weeks but after that, it’s all downhill. The country of origin may be a factor.
It wouldn’t cost much to correct the problems and make this a great razor. Add another battery,use a Mabuchi motor, change the circuit to allow corded use and install better quality cutter heads. Are you listening Remington ??
