This electric razor is the best!! Especially for men who don’t or can’t use a razor. I am a barber and was amazed how close it cut. Please not that the bulk of the hair on the face should be cut off with clippers such as the andis t-outlinder, styliner, or wahl liners, prior to using this tool or it will not work at it’s greatest potential. In some instances it may be necessary to pull the skin of the face taunt to get the closest shave. FYI.. this is the same electric razor as the 5 star shaver by wahl, (I called wahl to confirm) the only difference is the color of the housing.

before i bought this shaver i read the reviews and i saw that people were complaining that it doesnt cut hair at all, so i asked my barber about it and he told me that it only cuts stubble. If you have facial hair that you want to keep it wont cut it, the shaver will only cut the stubble growing around your facial hair style. this shaver also comes with a clipper on the back that you can line your self up. i didnt see anyone who wrote a review mention that so i was pleasently surprised.

Worth the Money – W. Malone –
The shaver actually performed just as I was informed it would. As an African-American male I needed a shaver that would give me a close shave, but not so close that it would cause irritation or ingrown hairs.
The reason for not giving it five stars is because it’s has to be by far the loudest shaver I’ve ever used.

I used a Braun Linear shaver since 1994, and was doubtful of the rotary shavers. After researching on Consumer Reports, I deceided to jump ship. The 5822XL is rated #1 on Consumer Reports, and now, I know why. There was no noticeable skin irritation; which was my concern. It gave me a closer shave than the old Braun, and in 1/2 the time! The lack of the familiar”buzzzzzzz,” replaced by a barely audible “Whirrr,” was refreshing. I am VERY pleased with it. This one’s a keeper!

Comfortable, but not a close shave for coarse beards – Mr. Retropia – Columbus, OH United States
Most men try to find a happy compromise between a close shave and a comfortable shave, especially if they have a coarse, wiry beard. I fit into that category, especially on my neck under my chin. The hairs grow in every direction, and it is difficult to get a close shave there without a lot of irritation and nicks.

This Norelco provides an extremely comfortable shave, but for me, not a close shave. This makes it less desirable to me. It might make a fine choice for someone with a lighter beard, or someone with less shaving experience, or someone who has a disability that makes it difficult to shave. Men in these categories would find the Norelco’s comfortable shave to be a winning factor.

I’m also not pleased with the cleaning requirements. My old Remington linear-style had a foil head that pops off, making the foil easy to clean under water, exposing the cutting head, which is also easy to rinse and brush under water. This Norelco shaving head, on the other hand, contains both the foil and the cutting blades. You must physically pop out the cutting blades to be able to access the back side of the foil for cleaning. Further, the instructions tell you to clean it in alcohol, then use a lubricating oil on the mechanism afterwards. This is considerably more work.

As I wasn’t experiencing a satisfactory shave with this razor, I tried for the first time a pre-electric shave conditioner. This conditioner has definitely helped, and allowed me to give the razor a two-star rating instead of only one-star. If you aren’t pleased with the quality of your electric shave, I highly recommend you try a pre-shave conditioner.

I bought this over a month ago. Gave myself about 4 or 5 simple haircuts so far. Sure easier and cheaper to stay neat and trimmed than going to the barber. Before each haircut, I would plug the clipper in to be charged overnight. This last time (2 weeks from last haircut), it seemed to have fully charged in about an hour. I set it at size 1.5 and run it around my head. This is the easy part. Then, I would use my hand as a guide to get cleaned up at the lower back side of my head. As for around the ears, I take out the guide then carefully run is over my hair – taking out a bit at a time until I am happy that it does not touch my ears. That’s it! BTW, I do not have battery problem like other posts. I am keeping my fingers crossed.

Oh, one thing about using this clipper is that you have to shake loose the hair clipping from the inside. It’s not hard.

I did have a regular clipper that I used previously, but I would need someone to help me with cleaning up the back of my neck and the side. Maybe I am just not that good at it.

I’ve only had this razor for a couple of weeks but so far it has proven to be excellent. Shaves close and fast, and the battery holds a charge for a long time. The only downside is that if the battery runs down you cannot plug in the recharger and shave. You must wait until the battery recharges.
I’ve had many rotary shavers over the years and I would recommend this one as highly satisfactory.

I have an average beard and have used remington rotary shavers for 35 years. Two years ago, I bought this r450 not noticing it was not a lift & cut. As a result, it doesn’t shave as close as my previous razor. Other than that, it is a good, reliable, economical shaver. It lasted 3 weeks on a charge initially and after 2 years still lasts 2 weeks. II’m just now buying new blades. FYI, I tried a foil shaver last year and was so disappointed that I’m back to the rotary. (The foil shaver cuts nice, but drops cut whiskers everywhere and, if I skip a day, it has a very hard time–misses several whiskers regardless of how many times I go over it. Not so with all the rotaries I’ve had!)

all I can say is OUCH!!!! – D. J. Dahl –
I got this shaver for Christmas and plugged it in, expected to shave my face but it has to be Unplugged to work, so I unplugged it after a full day of charging. The battery is too weak, the rpms are too slow and it tugs on your whiskers causing irritation and pain (even the beard trimmer does this)

I cannot do much about this as it was a present, and I no longer have the package it came in. So I’ll just look around for better, I imagine it won’t be too hard to find better than this.

no offense Remington or China for that matter, but if you’d quit building garbage you’d find it easier to attract and maintain customers.

Amazon wouldn’t print my first review. Have no idea why. This was not a lemon folks. I foolishly exchanged this item 3 times to prove it. The exchanges were done without problem.
The razor is powered by a single AA battery. The battery’s life decays quickly in the first thirty days making it mandatory to recharge almost daily. It will not work corded. You best bring your charger unit with you even on short trips.
The exterior design is good. The weight and feel are good as well. The shave is excellent for the first few weeks but after that, it’s all downhill. The country of origin may be a factor.
It wouldn’t cost much to correct the problems and make this a great razor. Add another battery,use a Mabuchi motor, change the circuit to allow corded use and install better quality cutter heads. Are you listening Remington ??

The model advertised and ordered on Aug 29, 2009 was no. 9878-511, the model they shipped to me was the much outdated 9876-536, which doesn’t have the charging light, cannot be used while plugged in to the wall (corded use) and doesn’t have a storage pouch. The e-mail Cosmetic Solutions and Amazon.com sent to confirm my order just stated: WAHL TRIMMER BEARD & MUSTACHE XL and Wahl Groomsman Cordless Trimmer, no info on the model number, leaving themselves ample wiggle room to ship any model they wanted. I trusted the vendor since it was selling through Amazon.com, but I was fairly pissed when I saw what they sent. I already own a Wahl rechargeable trimmer, just like the one they sent, which works well but has a very poor battery life and can not be used in corded mode, so I know exactly the type of bait and switch trick they did. I live in Mexico so it would be too expensive to return the item for an exchange or refund. But my 1st experience shopping with “Cosmetic Solutions” was bad, I would never order anything from these folks ever again.

The ER224S has been in use for about a year now. It works as advertised. I enjoy the versatility of its cordless design and the various trim settings. The settings, however, do not translate into what my barber understands: for example, a “1″ isn’t a “size 1 clipper”, and the settings skip numbers, for example: there’s a 5, then a dot, then 8. The manual provides a chart with the actual measurements in fractions of a inch, but I’m more of the hands-on type of guy. I have used this on my mustache/beard as well as my head. I can usually get a pretty decent cut (I like it close, a but longer than crew-cut) by myself, though I usually ask my wife to help me with the back for a more even final result. I have not used it in other body parts as advertised, nor have I used it in the shower or used it under running water. Like what other reviewers have mentioned, the fact that it “locks” the trim length, once you set it and turn it on, is a plus. The one inconvenience is that the comb attachment has broken (brittle plastic), so I’ve had to order replacements. With shipping/handling and taxes, two attachments came close to . Easy to use and did a nice job – KG –
I really liked the product. It was easy to use and lived up to billing. It does not have multiple size grooming heads which are always an annoyance. The single adjustable head on the razor works well.

The only small issue is that the design makes it a little difficult to get to the hair immediately next to the nose. This is a small annoyance and I would recommend this device without a doubt.

I found this at Ross for and I have used this to cut my hair (yes no trip to the barber, just do it all over on setting – between 5-8 closest to a #2 on barbers clippers) for over 2 years now and its still going strong and the hair looks fine, no one has ever commented on it looking messed up or patchy, Mine is just a plug into the bottom not a fancy base. One thing I might mention, you mention worrying you’ll break the guard one day.. I dial it all the way to 20 then I “pinch” it or lift it off the peg. this works great and no worries about breaking it (or stripping the lock on the dial) but just make sure you put the dial back down (the peg will scratch you).
